Club Information
WSA is a Historical Martial Arts group based in Swindon, Wiltshire.
The group is consistently working on expanding our knowledge of historical combat, using many different historical sources to aid us in constructing solid and practical interpretations of the techniques described by historical masters. Our primary sources for the backsword and quarterstaff are the English master George Silver's works "Paradoxes of Defence" (1599) and "Brief Instructions Upon My Paradoxes of Defence" (1605) and Joseph Swetnam's "The Schoole of the Noble and Worthy Science of Defence" (1617) for the rapier.
We also look at multiple other sources of Italian origin in order to widen our understanding of armed combat in England, as it is well documented that Italian fencing schools were highly active and well attended in places such as London during the time periods we are interested in.
Previous martial arts experience is not necessary, so don't be nervous! Many of us had no experience when we started and are still learning ourselves!
