Meet the Instructors
WSA Swindon
Leon Flower
Founder & Instructor
(Backsword, Polearms, Pugilistics)
Leon has been studying HEMA for 18 years and is the founder of WSA Swindon.
His expertise is in George Silver's method of fencing with backsword and quarterstaff and he is the co-author of the current WSA Schollar's Handbook.
Matt Spencer
Instructor
(Backsword, Polearms)
Matt has been studying HEMA with the Wessex School of Arms for 9 years, concentrating on the use of the backsword and quarterstaff.
He has recently stepped up to oversee instruction during classes and will often coach the free scholar contingent within our sessions.
Nial Prince
Instructor
(Rapier, Dagger, Sidesword, Longsword)
Nial has been studying and teaching HEMA for 7 years and previously taught at an Oxford based club which specialised in the fencing system of Joachim Meyer.
Nial is primarily interested in examining how non-English systems influenced masters such as Silver and Swetnam and has written and delivered courses on contemporary Italian fencing systems, focusing on how understanding them can aid in our interpretations of the English works.
He also introduced the use of the rapier to the club, for which he is unapologetic.
